What are wiper inserts?
A wiper insert (aka wiper blade refill) refers to just the squeegee part of the wiper blade that makes contact with the windshield. Most wiper blades are designed to prevent you from changing the insert, but Schedge™ wiper blades have made replacing inserts super simple.
How long should windshield wipers last?
Natural rubber wiper blade inserts last between 6 and 12 months depending on your vehicle's use, storage and maintenance. Things like dirt, road debris, high and low temperatures, dry air, ice, snow and the sun all deteriorate wiper blades even when they are not being used.
With the Schedge™ subscription, we can make a recommendation with just a few questions answered from you and then set you up on a schedule.
Are silicone wiper blades better?
While silicone is a more durable product than natural rubber, there are several negatives that make this a poor material choice for wiper blades.
- It is more expensive and will still have to be replaced at some point
- Silicone can be very squeaky on glass if there is only a light amount of water
- Silicone is not very bio-degradable and can take 10 times longer to break down than rubber (800 years for silicone vs 50-80 years for natural rubber). Schedge™ cannot and will not sell such a product
Are beam wiper blades better?
Beam wiper blades are better than conventional wiper blades because of the even distribution of pressure across the glass. Conventional blades have between 6 and 8 contact points and over time those contact points wear out your wiper blade insert faster at those pressure points. Beam blades are estimated to have about 1,000 pressure points over the span of the entire wiper blade leading to longer lasting inserts and a smoother wipe. Beam wiper blades also displace water better and are more aerodynamic at faster highway speed.
All around beam blades are the better choice, especially if you only have to buy them 1 time with a Schedge™ Lifetime Frame Warranty!
